McLaughlin 4-Miler Road Race for Mental Health

On September 30, 2018, runners and walkers will loop around the heart of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to break the ice around the conversation of mental illness in the Third Annual McLaughlin 4-Miler.The McLaughlin 4-Miler is named in honor of Alex McLaughlin who was an all-around athlete from the community and was a varsity basketball player for Acadia University. Alex took his own life due to depression in April 2014. By breaking the ice we can help fight the 2nd leading cause of death among young adults. The route begins and ends at Hawthorne School and loops around Banook Lake and Sullivan’s Pond in Dartmouth. We have Hawthorne School rented for registration, post-race refreshments and awards. We are grateful for the support in prior year events to help raise $7,390.61 to donate to the Student-Athlete Mental Health Initiative. This year, our goal is to double our charitable contribution and increase the participants to 400 runners & walkers. Our goal is to increase mental health awareness, erase the stigma surrounding mental illness and maximize the amount of donations to mental health organizations. Our event is 4 miles long and is professionally timed, has 4 patrol police officers and fencing, cones and course marshalls to safely guide runners and walkers.Lets break the ice around the stigma of mental illness!www.runformentalhealth.camclaughlin4miler@gmail.com
